About Daniel Mcclelland
I upscale and supercharge teams, their tools, and their products. I'm 15+ years into my career in Tech, and now 7 years into formal Tech Leadership. In the past 4 years I've been a Product Owner, Delivery Lead, People Lead and Technical Lead for some of the biggest projects you've never heard of (that's because they went seamlessly, without impacting millions of customers, or the throughput of the engineers using my tools). I care passionately about delivering a great experience for my teams' customers. I'm a keen proponent of Site Reliability Engineering principles to ensure that users find our apps seamless, intuitive and always-on. I invest in growing teams, roadmaps and strategies that can sustain that drive. My teams' people are always my first focus in doing so; their development is as important as the software they code or test.I'm a confident speaker, who's presented at national and international conferences. I was at the forefront of the race to native mobile and responsive web testing, and am a global expert in this space. I have worked internationally, for some of the USA's biggest firms. I've worked on the hardest migrations possible, and deliver every time. That's because I'm a self-motivated, enthusiastic, driven, individual. I'm an ISTQB Certified Test Engineer with a wide range of experience across different Quality Assurance types. I've got a proven record in test management and Agile Methodologies has been acquired by working in various testing types, at every level of tech stack.I'm also (!) a successful musician, check out my music wherever you stream it. I've been featured on RNZ's The Sampler, received 5-star reviews, and my first album was nominated for NZ's Best Independent Debut award in 2017. In my past I've also been a published film critic. I've a keen eye for creativity, that I bring to my day-job at every opportunity I can. Most importantly though, I'm also a Dad (2 boys, both under 5) and a husband. I currently work part-time 4-day work weeks to spend as much time with my young family as I can.

Qa Engineer
Working at JOOR was a great introduction to the New York tech scene work ethic. My primary focus was to test and deploy regular releases of an enterprise-focused iPad application. The app was required to store and transfer thousands of images, via transactional APIs that were also developed in-house. We had a small team, and this enabled us to react fast and change development approaches; this has helped me broaden my knowledge in various Agile methodologies
Event Organiser
I ran preview screenings of upcoming movies at movie theatres around Wellington. We ran regular promotions that allow us to show Flicks.co.nz readers a diverse range of films each year. This often had the added benefit of getting a 'good buzz' into the city about a film before it's released.
Writer
Writing reviews, features and previews for New Zealand's best website devoted to movies: Flicks.co.nz. I did this part-time as a freelancer, out of normal work hours while I worked in Tech otherwise. I'm a huge movie buff, and this was a dream job; to be paid to share my love of cinema with the world. I generally wrote a review every three weeks or so. In terms of long-term benefits to my Tech roles, this was a great chance for me to shape my communication skills at a nationwide scale.
Senior Test Analyst
• At the forefront of testing Trade Me’s move to APIs, responsive mobile sites, and iOS apps• First implementation of test automation at Trade Me• Create and execute test scripts and conditions• Managed regular iterations of development and communicate their progress to primary business stakeholders• Defect management and basic incident resolution• Established remote-work practises• Mentorship of new hires
Test Analyst
Overall, my experience was wide-reaching and required a variety of functional and non-functional focuses: System Integration, User Acceptance, Browser Compatibility, Accessibility, Disaster Recovery and Automated Regression testing. Approximately half of the releases I tested were 'business as usual,' while the other half were 'greenfield' projects.
Technical Support Officer
Helping support the biggest payroll in New Zealand from fortnight to fortnight. Everything from installing servers; writing / running database queries, network upgrades; providing remote support to several processing centres; becoming ITIL compliant and, most importantly, this company gave me my first experience with testing
