Dan McCormick began his professional career as a mechanical engineer in the aerospace industry. At General Dynamics, Convair he designed a wing deployment mechanism and ground support systems for sea-launched cruise missiles (SLCM). Two years later, he moved to Raytheon MSD where he developed infrared self-guided projectiles fired from artillery weapons.McCormick transitioned into the semiconductor segment where he held several technical and leadership roles. At GCA Corp. he led a small engineering team on the systems development of new photolithography step-and-repeat equipment. From there he joined AT&T Bell Labs where he worked on the physical design of integrated circuits. McCormick then accepted an engineering leadership position at ADE Corp. for the development of capacitance-based metrology instruments. In 1991, McCormick joined Waters Corporation. As Director of RDE, he managed the development of a new analytical system (Alliance) intended to replace a vital core product-line. Despite a fast-tracked schedule, the product’s overall performance exceeded expectations. This highly successful program has now surpassed 100,000 systems and remains the most profitable product in Waters 50 year history. Other notable products include Acquity UPLC and a series of new Low-, Mid- and Upper-tier Mass Spectrometers (MS). McCormick was promoted to Vice President of RDE where he assumed full control of the division’s instrument & software products. The RDE organization, now at ~ 450 directs, operated in 5 locations, namely USA, UK, DE, ROU, and SG. In 2012, he assumed the title of Sr. VP, CTO and pursued a strategic plan to leverage the recent advances in life sciences. McCormick also chaired the Corporate Intellectual Property (IP) Committee and supervised M&A activity. McCormick holds dual masters degrees (MSMS, MSSE) and an undergrad degree (BSME) from the University of Massachusetts System.
