Batch Control Systems design, build, maintain and support all industry leading control system platforms in a wide range of sectors, with a particular specialisation in pharmaceuticals and chemicals.Initially setup to serve the Pharmaceutical industry, Batch Control Systems has been in business since 1996. Since then they have expanded into a wide range of industries including chemical, petrochemical, power, utilities, food and beverage.My primary role within the company is to author PLC, HMI, VSD, and SCADA software for new installations and existing systems. I'm also involved in the commissioning aspect of projects for new or modified software. Additionally, it is also my responsibility to electrically design control systems including electrical panel design and layout.These responsibilities require an in depth knowledge of how the system in hand is required to operate as well the industry standards involved with the design and implementation of the solution from both an electrical and software perspective.Additional duties include but are not limited to the surveying & pricing of projects, the creation of project & technical documentation and providing technical support to clients and colleagues.The projects I have been part of thus far are largely within the Process Automation sector in the UK which includes working with Rolls Royce & Doosan Babcock on a control system for a prototype heat exchanger, site wide automation upgrades for global corporations CABOT & IFF, a handful of small projects within the water industry in Scotland and for a control system for the test of hydrogen meters for TUV.

After taking on the role of Senior Control Systems Engineer, in addition to my existing duties, I was assigned my own team to manage, mentor and develop.

redT specialise in energy storage infrastructure solutions that deliver cheap, sustainable energy with attractive economic returns for customers using redT’s own vanadium redox flow machines.This role is more development based than previous roles with my primary focus being to write, modify and commission PLC, HMI, VSD & SCADA software. This requires an in-depth knowledge of how the systems operate as well as being familiar with various software packages. As part of redT, I took over and delivered the UK’s first operational energy storage system at The Oldehouse in Cornwall, England with it now being the world’s first energy storage site to turn a profit for the customer. This was featured in a segment on the BBC program Countryfile.

After taking on the role of Senior Control & Automation Engineer, in addition to my existing responsibilities, I undertook a greater level of project management, customer interaction, pricing, scoping, development & support of colleagues and assisting in the running, organisation and development of the Control & Automation department.

Parkburn Precision Handling Systems is a specialist marine handling systems provider, which was re-branded in October 2002 to combine the products of Parkburn Controls, Dowty Precision Handling Systems and Marine Project Development (MPD).Parkburn operate across offshore oil and gas, HV power cable, telecommunications, seismic exploration, DSV and general marine & naval handling markets.My primary roles within the company were to author PLC, HMI, VSD, & SCADA software for new and existing installations, electrically design control systems and to be highly involved with project management.These responsibilities require an in depth knowledge of how the system in hand is required to operate as well the industry standards involved with the design and implementation of the solution from both an electrical and software perspective.Additional duties include but are not limited to the surveying & pricing of projects, the creation of project & technical documentation, assisting in the development of junior engineers, assisting with IT duties, ensuring contracts met with QA standards and providing technical support to clients and colleagues.I was involved with a number of high profile projects over a broad spectrum which includes commercial marine systems, military marine systems, research & development and the oil & gas industry. The highest profile project I was involved with was the new UK carriers HMS Queen Elizabeth and the HMS Prince of Wales where I was the sole software author for the aircraft lift systems. I was also heavily involved in the electrical design and project management aspects.Another notable project I was involved with was for a hot water drill that was to be used for extracting samples from deep below the ice of Antarctica. This was featured on a televised BBC news report in 2012.
