Dr. McGrath brings a unique perspective to the application of data mining and statistical analysis through extensive experience in protecting natural resource systems, optimizing manufacturing systems, and supporting business intelligence activities. All of his assignments have involved large data sets related to complex systems that are susceptible to low-probability high-consequence events. His doctoral studies encompassed the tools and techniques to support effective and efficient modeling and simulation of complex systems. His dissertation focused on the application of statistical process control charts for growth/decay situations (non-zero-sloping trends).Dr. McGrath’s focus is on the use of quantitative and statistical analysis as a means to learn, understand, and optimize a system. This approach has worked equally well for environmental, project management, financial, security, HR, manufacturing, and operational data. He views the key factors to a successful analysis to be the human factors in the process, the validity of the data mining, and the verification of modeling efforts. His dedicated focus to “finding a better way” resulted in his assignment as a full time facilitator of continuous improvement. He repeatedly demonstrated how simulation models (and other predictive analytics tools) can efficiently lead change.
