Keyholder
In moving from an Asda superstore to a Tesco express, I have successfully adapted to a greater role in a smaller shop. Since there are fewer staff and more responsibilities within this store, I have learned quickly how to complete all the tasks required in the store in a timely fashion, as well as how to train new starts and delegate tasks between them depending on ability. I have taken on responsibilities such as closing and opening the store, taking in deliveries and logging waste for the company. Also due to there being fewer staff, a real team spirit has been cultivated between team members, which makes this store a productive and enjoyable place to work.
Services Colleague
At Asda, I had many roles and responsibilities. Depending on the day, I could be working behind the kiosk, helping out at the self scan checkouts, or even outside pulling trolleys back to the front of the store. No matter where I was, though, customer satisfaction was always a vital consideration. By delegating responsibilities to other team members in high pressure situations, I ensured that customers were served efficiently and effectively.
Kids Club Team Member
In my role at David Lloyd, I took on a greater responsibility than perhaps in any other of my jobs: looking after children. Of course, a child is their parents’ most prized possession, and this requires keen awareness of safety and personal responsibility (and, unfortunately, eyes on the back of your head). During the summer, we would take summer camps for the children, which meant my colleagues and I were responsible for the children having their 3 meals a day, in some cases for 6 weeks straight. I never anticipated that making children eat a meal that they chose could be so difficult, however that is one of the reasons why I hold this role in such high regard. Having a good relationship with both the parents and children was vital, and to this end I was able to use my social skills to garner trust between myself and the parents. It was incredibly rewarding to work in a job where I felt trusted with a real, personal responsibility.
