I studied in the Applied Physics program at Rice University, in the lab of Jacob Robinson (robinsonlab.com). My research efforts focused on developing wireless methods to control neuronal networks, using photogenetics and magnetogenetics. Such methods have a wide variety of applications, and in particular might be used to understand the neuronal transfer function.Utilized primary neuronal cell culture and high-resolution microscopy experience to assist newly hired professor with cell culture, immunohistochemistry, and imaging of murine brain cells.Performed biomolecular engineering of Piezo-1 ion channel that successfully allowed for remote control of cultured primary rat hippocampal and cortical cells and Neuro-2A cells with magnetic fields.Optimized lab protocols for culturing 3 different primary neuronal types and 3 different cell lines.Presented weekly reports of progress to my principal investigator and the entire lab group.Our toolbox for our projects included, among other things, genetic/optogenetic transduction, whole cell patch-clamp electrophysiology, MATLAB data analysis, and standard neuronal cell culture.
