In my personal life I enjoy hobbies that let me expand my knowledge and experience, the biggest hobby in my life is aviation. I am an instrument rated private pilot with over 500 hours, and I own and fly a 1977 Cessna Cardinal RG. I have no particular interest in going into a commercial aviation career but working for a company involved in the aviation software industry would be a rare treat! From my interest in aviation and aviation safety follows an amateur passion for understanding meteorology.

Oct 2014 - Nov 2016Boston, MaAt SpeedyPackets - an early stage startup - I led the development effort for SpeedyTCP, a replacement transport protocol similar to TCP but achieving 2x-10x performance difference through selective data encoding and novel congestion control techniques. As technical lead of a five person software development team (the entire company) I designed and implemented the overall architecture of the software as well as most of the individual components. In a leadership role I interfaced with QA and managed a team across Los Angeles and Boston. I maintained our JIRA as well as assigning tasks for release and project management. I also maintained our network, Gerrit code review server, and in general wore many other early stage startup hats. -

Jun 2012 - Oct 2014Lincoln, MaVeloBit HyperCache (now "HGST ServerCache") is a storage acceleration driver for Windows and Linux, using RAM and SSD to dramatically speed up IO using compression and dedupe techniques to gain efficiency and performance. In my relatively short time at VeloBit I've worked to design and implement dramatic improvements to the VeloBit core kernel driver (Windows and Linux) including improvements to our parallelism and synchronizations techniques. As a random side project I've owned improvements to our Windows GUI and user experience. A few of my biggest contributions to our core driver include a major effort to reduce the in-RAM metadata for our kernel driver to around a quarter of the original requirement, a cache metadata serialization technique that resulted in a large reduction in boot time, and a new compact data structure to enable sequential flushing with substantial speed increases. VeloBit was purchased by HGST (a Western Digital company) in July of 2013. -
