Summer Associate
Legal Intern In The Criminal Prosecution Division
Judicial Intern For The Honorable Michael M. Baylson
Judicial Intern For The Honorable Maria Mclaughlin
As a judicial intern clerk for Judge Maria McLaughlin of the Superior Court of Pennsylvania, I co-wrote two judicial memorandums in response to appeals made before the appellate court. I worked alongside Judge McLaughlin's team of law clerks in interpreting, analyzing, and applying Pennsylvania statues to claims brought to the Superior Court. I also had the privilege of constructing condensed bench memos of cases for Judge McLaughlin to reference while hearing argumentation from the appellee and appellant. My favorite experience of this internship was attending in-person court. I was able to watch Judge McLaughlin and other Superior Court Judges execute their vital roles in the criminal justice system. I also observed countless strategies used by lawyers from across the state in all different fields of law. This opportunity greatly strengthened my understanding and appreciation for the law and the judicial system of the United States.
Peer Minister In Campus Ministry
As a Peer Minister, I assisted Saint Joseph's University's Campus Ministry in a number of programs designed to help students' personal growth as well as develop a sense of community on campus. Projects that I have worked on thus far as a Peer Minister include leading and facilitating freshmen involvement groups, conducting presentations on voter registration, and giving speeches at retreats. However, my greatest involvement as a Peer Minister was leading the Winter Immersion Program to El Paso, Texas. This was a week long immersion in January of 2022 to the border region of the United States and Mexico. Students had the opportunity to fully engulf themselves in the complexity of the immigration system, while directly living amongst and hearing from the community that immigration legislation most directly affects.
Campus Tour Guide
As a tour guide, I conduct weekly tours to prospective students and their families which result in routine positive feedback and keen interest in the University. I have also been called upon to speak and present at a multitude of Saint Joseph's University Admissions events, such as Admitted Students Day and Senior Saturdays.
Eastern Pennsylvania Campaign Intern Coordinator
As the intern coordinator for Judge Maria McLaughlin's campaign for Pennsylvania Supreme Court, I was entrusted with a variety of different responsibilities. I began by attending numerous campaign fundraisers and political outreach events with the Judge, in which I served as her personal assistant and driver. These events gave me the opportunity to travel the state, connect with other elected officials, and help galvanize support for the candidate. I was also tasked with assisting in the management of her social media accounts and public advertisement, primarily her Twitter profile and recruiting young adults for one of her commercials. As the campaign progressed, I was asked to take a larger role as the Eastern Pennsylvania intern coordinator. In this position I recruited other college students from Saint Joseph's University, Villanova University, and Lehigh University to form an Eastern Pennsylvania intern team. I served as a liaison between campaign management and the inters by leading the team in attending events, canvassing local neighborhoods, making phone calls and presenting to student organizations. This experience helped me grow in the development of many personal attributes necessary for a potential career in politics and/or government administration.
Educational Programing Intern
The Education Department at the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia conducts a variety of summer programing opportunities for high school and middle school students. As an intern for this department, I assisted in designing and leading virtual, week-long conferences for both high school and middle school students. These programs aim to develop and foster interest in global affairs. I also assisted the department in its findings of key research, expert speakers, and new goals for their educational programs in the Fall and for the Council at large.
Global Smarts Intern
This internship has involved preparation meetings both with the coordinator and other interns of the Global Smarts Program as well as weekly sessions with a sixth grade class from St. Mary's Elementary School in Center City Philadelphia. As an intern, I lead these weekly sessions with sixth grade students in which I teach about the United Nations and lead an ongoing model UN experience. All of these meetings and events are in preparation for the students' final model UN conference in May.
