Perform cost estimation and planning functions for Tool Room and Automation Department. Analyze Tool Room incoming job requirements to evaluate feasibility of manufacture. Prepare annual Tool Room & Automation Department budgets and monitor adherence to budgets. Prepare appropriation requests and solicit proposals for new capital equipment and tooling. Perform all personnel duties encompassing hiring, performance evaluations, development plans and discipline. Prepare and schedule Engineers, Toolmakers and Technicians work in coordination with production and customer needs. Responsible for actively driving safety excellence and supporting safety initiatives to eliminate accidents and safety hazards in the workplace. Serve as the technical mentor for Tool Room Lead and Toolmakers. Assist Engineers in conducting studies and programs to determine the root causes and solutions to variations in machine processes and provide technical input and support as needed.
Toolroom Supervisor
Responsible for supervision and daily operations of diverse tool making functions such as, butnot limited to, fabrication, repair, and maintenance of tooling, dies, fixtures, and gauging thatsupport production operations. Assists engineers in the design and development of same.Reports to Manufacturing Engineering Manager. Plan, direct, and control, activities ofToolmakers. Develops personnel in order to achieve objectives. Establishes departmentalprocedures and budget. Interfaces with all levels of local and headquartersmanagement/personnel in regard to work order request development and status. Regularlyinterfaces with outside vendors, in regard to, sub contracted work development, status, quality,and delivery.• Responsible for the build, repair, and maintenance of tooling, dies, fixtures, andgauging that support diverse types of production operations. Work can be as close as.005 mm tolerance level.• Coordinates job priorities with production managers, engineering, and maintenance ina timely manner.• Communicates status of jobs to customers.• Assists engineers in design and development of needed tools, dies, fixtures, andgages.• Works with production, engineering, and maintenance to establish if requests need tobe subcontracted. Selects vendors and acts as liaison with them in regard todevelopment, status, quality and delivery of requests.• Coordinates all purchases related to work order requests, supplies, and equipment.• Responsible for proactive people management. Sets the standards for performanceassessment and feedback, effective communication, and promoting positive employeemorale. Supports employee involvement programs.• Schedule work within the Tool Room shop..• Implement and continue 5S throughout the area and seek new methods to improveperformance and appearance.• Estimate the required number of hours per job, then track and report actual hours forperformance purposes.
Supervisor – Factory Services, Tool Room And Prototype
As Supervisor working for this automotive pump and injector manufacturer, I was responsible for 35 toolmakers and prototype machinists. Through my supervision of the Tool Room, Experimental Machine Shop and Prototype Department, I worked with our Engineering and Manufacturing departments to provide factory support, new tooling and support on new product development, working to sub-micron tolerances on precision pumps and injectors.• Tooling, Dies, fixtures and specialty prototype pump and injector components• Reviewing incoming jobs to evaluate feasibility of manufacture• Preparing requests and solicit proposals for new capital equipment and tooling• Track performance, quality and on-time delivery for all jobs• All personnel duties encompassing hiring, performance evaluations and discipline • Prepare and schedule Toolmakers and Machinists’ work in coordination with production and customer needs.• Participated in the co-op program at Cheney Vocational Technical High School to mentor and train high school students in Tool and Die and participated in the industry advisory board for this program.
