I'm passionate about American agriculture – the land, the people who farm it, the machinery we use, and the new technologies that will drive future productivity gains. I’m proud of the fact that American farmers are working hard to meet one of the greatest challenges of our time by helping to feed a rapidly growing world population. I'm a founding partner of Grainfield Capital Management, which organizes and manages private funds that offer investors a convenient and efficient way to gain portfolio exposure to U.S. farmland. By combining an insightful strategic/macro view of the investing landscape with deep agricultural expertise, we help our clients achieve their long-term financial goals through investments in farmland assets.Prior to launching Grainfield, I held a number of positions in the commodity futures industry. Most recently, I served as President of Charles Schwab Futures, the commodities unit of a U.S. financial services giant with more than $7 trillion in customer assets. Previously, I was Executive Vice President at optionsXpress, an award-winning, Nasdaq-listed online futures and options broker that was acquired by Schwab for approximately $1 billion. Xpresstrade, a company I co-founded and launched in the late 1990s, was a pioneer in online commodity futures trading and eventually was acquired by optionsXpress. I was successful in taking each of these businesses to the next level by: • Recognizing market drivers and gaps, identifying opportunities in the marketplace, and developing strategies to exploit them.• Championing a customer-centric mindset and leading teams to impactful, innovative – yet practical, intuitive, user-friendly – client solutions. • Decisively leading from strategy to action in order to achieve business objectives.• Assembling, aligning, and inspiring high-performing, cross-functional teams and creating healthy, positive environments where these teams could flourish under the right mix of autonomy and accountability.I’m a graduate of Middlebury College and received an MBA from the University of Chicago. I enjoy aviation and hold an FAA-issued commercial pilot certificate and instrument flight rating. Contact me at Dan.ONeil@grainfield.ag, and let’s talk about the benefits of investing in U.S. farmland, the outlook for farmland values, and the factors driving agricultural commodity markets.
