I am an incoming graduate student pursuing a Master’s of Science in Management who is passionate about working with other people in order to find effective solutions for problems. I believe collaborating with others allows for issues and solutions to be viewed in a wider variety of perspectives, and that each perspective brings something to the table that is both unique and valuable. As a Project Management intern at Applied Technologies for Learning in the Arts & Sciences during my undergraduate years at UIUC, I had the opportunity to work together with a small team to develop a new marketing strategy to increase the social media presence of our client, Red Clover Reader. Each of us had come from different backgrounds, and we all had different ideas, but we all worked together to come up with a strategy that incorporated a bit of everyone's proposed solutions. As project manager, it was also my job to conduct status meetings and address any concerns that my team might have. By conducting these meetings, I was able to listen to and appreciate perspectives that were different from mine, and this allowed me to help my team members make the most of their project and internship.Through my time as a Personal Assistant Manager, I've also developed skills related to policy administration, employee relations, and giving interviews, among others. I hire paraprofessional staff to help with performing functional tasks of daily living, and after hiring them, I train and supervise them individually as well. To date, I've trained and supervised over 30 different paraprofessional staff over almost 4 years. Each staff member has their own style of learning, and as a result, I've adapted how I train to fit each member's learning style. Being a manager has also allowed me to develop good communication skills. Good communication has been vital to having successful employer / employee relations with my staff, as it has enabled me to reach an understanding with my employees and to balance what I need from them with what they expect from me as an employer.
