Experienced in small molecule drug discovery: identification of lead compounds able to inhibit the production of Aß peptides/and/or Tau hyperphosphorylation/Neuroinflammation and investigation of the molecular mechanisms responsible for the effect of those lead compounds against Alzheimer’s disease; development of in vitro and in vivo biological screening assays to identify and validate the efficiency of compounds against Alzheimer’s disease and against cancer (specifically new inhibitors of angiogenesis).Identification of new inhibitors of angiogenesis for the development of anti-cancer therapies.Investigation of the normal physiological functions of the amyloid precursor protein (APP) and processed fragments in the brain and their pathological influence in the development of neurodegenerative disorders.

My projects concerned the study of signal transduction pathways impacted by Aß peptides in vascular systems, in microglia, astrocytes, neurons and transgenic animal models of Alzheimer’s disease. The aim of this work was to identify specific targets that could be manipulated in vivo in order to produce efficient therapies against Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders. Investigation into the vasoactive properties of the Alzheimer ß-amyloid peptides in peripheral vessels and cerebrovessels in animals and human. Analysis of the genetic risk conferred by specific loci in Alzheimer’s disease. Investigation into the relationship between specific immunological factors and Alzheimer’s Disease. Development of assays to identify the biological activities of Aß peptides in the vasculature and in various others biological systems. Investigation into the impact of Aß peptides and modulators of APP metabolism and processing on angiogenesis. Development of new therapeutic strategies against cancer.

My projects consisted of the production and study of animal models of human pathologies associated with chromosome 21 genes (Down’s syndrome, Alzheimer’s disease, Homocystinuria) and included the generation of different lines of transgenic mice overexpressing the human gene encoding the copper-zinc superoxide dismutase (SOD-1), SOD-1 promoter LacZ mice, APPSw mice and APP wild type overexpressing mice, Myelin Basic Protein Promoter-LacZ transgenic mice.
