Associate Editor for the International Development Coordinating Group (IDCG) at the Campbell Collaboration. The International Development Coordinating Group prepares, updates and disseminates systematic reviews of high policy-relevance focusing on social and economic development interventions in low and middle income countries. As Assoicate Editor, I am part of an international network of researchers, policy makers, practitioners and funders who are interested in effective methods to improve the social and economic well-being of people in developing countries. The Group provides editorial services and technical support to authors of Campbell reviews.

I led the Centre for Evaluation. The new Centre positions NatCen as a leader in evaluation, developing NatCen’s existing expertise in this area and providing crucial insight into the difference that policies and programmes can make. The team specialises in a wide variety of approaches to evaluation and evidence synthesis, including experimental and quasi-experimental evaluation, theory-based evaluation, process evaluation and systematic reviews.

As a Research Director in NatCen's Evaluation team, I specialised in impact evaluation and research synthesis relating to social programmes.

I worked in 3ie's synthesis and reviews team as a Research Associate, then an Evaluation Specialist. Evidence syntheses consolidate the best available research evidence on a specific question and can provide a sound and reliable basis for decision making about public policy and provision of public services. My work involved providing training and quality assurance, as well as the leading and collaborating on in-house research projects.Systematic reviews are designed to comprehensively examine the existing evidence on a social or economic development intervention or programme in low and middle income countries (LMICs). Evidence gap maps (EGMs) consolidate what we know about what works in particular development sectors or thematic areas. They identify evidence from systematic reviews and impact evaluations and provide a graphical display of areas with strong, weak or non-existent evidence on the effects of development programmes and initiatives.For an example of an evidence gap map or a systematic review, see my publications below.

3ie is devoted to improving lives through better policies, programmes and projects that are designed and implemented based on evidence drawn from high quality impact evaluations. I worked on various evidence synthesis projects and wrote a working paper with 3ie Director Howard White examining how impact evaluations of development programmes can address causation when there is a ‘small n’, where sample size is too small to carry out tests of statistical significance. Drawing on various approaches suitable for small n analysis, the paper sets out an integrated framework detailing how impact evaluations can tackle attribution of cause and effect in small n cases.

The Green Jobs team has been set up to respond to the challenge of tackling climate change and promoting providing sustainable development whilst providing decent work for all.Work included the following:- Research and compilation of a paper outlining ILO tools to assess employment impacts and opportunities related to climate change.-Research and compilation of a policy brief and handbook outlining green analytical tools to assess the job creation benefits of green policies. -Contributions to papers and research on the following topics: the socio-economic impacts of climate change, entrepreneurial toolkits and tools for assessing the impacts of climate change on employment. ---Research and briefings to support the wider work of my team.

ActionAid is an international organisation, working with over 25 million people in more than 40 countries for a world free from poverty and injustice.I worked part-time with the ActionAid international policy team during my MSc. I researched and wrote a briefing paper dealing with issues of climate loss and damage. The paper contributed to the development of a policy blueprint on the same topic.
