Daniel Read joined Walkers' Jersey office in September 2018 where he is a Senior Counsel in the Employment and IDR teams. Dan has substantial experience in contentious employment disputes, in particular advising clients from all business sectors (predominantly financial services) on staff and employment issues including restrictive covenants and team moves, unfair dismissal claims, grievance and disciplinary issues, discrimination, misconduct and capability issues, managing sickness absence, redundancy, and senior executive terminations and exit package negotiations.Dan also advises on non-contentious employment law issues, including contractual terms and policies, setting up new businesses, including business licensing, and the employment aspects of mergers and acquisitions. Dan also has in-house experience having been seconded to work within the legal team at a major international bank where he gained invaluable experience of employment related matters from the client's perspective. Dan has a broad range of commercial litigation experience with a particular specialism in general commercial litigation, including directors' disputes and partnership disputes, with a focus on partnership covenants and deferred remuneration issues. Prior to joining Walkers, Dan worked for another leading offshore law firm in Jersey. Dan is recognised as a next generation lawyer for his employment expertise by the Legal 500 and as one to watch by Chambers.

Dan is a Senior Associate in the litigation team, focussing on employment law, including unfair dismissal, redundancy, contractual disputes, health and safety, and personal injury arising out of workplace accidents.Dan advises on both contentious and non-contentious matters. Recent work includes drafting a contract for a specialist contractor in an offshore jurisdiction, drafting a collective agreement between a union and a major multi-national employer, and advising on claims for unfair dismissal.
