About Daniel Rees

Before joining Newsquest, I studied at Aberdeen and Durham and trained at News Associates. I received the Gold Standard NCTJ Diploma in 2020, and then moved to Colchester in the summer of 2021 to begin working for the Colchester Gazette. I became the paper's Crime and Court Reporter in November last year and obtained the Level 6 National Qualification in Journalism in April.As well as reporting on local news in Essex, I am also a freelance sports journalist, having written exclusives for The Times, Press and Journal, and Athletics Weekly. I also commentate live from national athletics competitions with Vinco Sport.Outside of journalism, I am a competitive athlete at club level specialising in the 400m hurdles.
