Field Experience – I have experience in writing systematic notes on observed geological outcrops including interpretations of past processes that may have occurred. I am comfortable in gathering both qualitative and quantitative data which I have analysed in written reports. My field experience has been in areas including Brittany, Northwest Scotland, and Cornwall. Lab Skills – During my degree I have gained skills in examining thin sections under XPL and PPL using a microscope. Attention to detail and depth is important when describing specimens. My work ethic helped me achieve a 1st in creating sandbox models and designing experiments which show fault and folding patterns within rocks. IT Experience – I am proficient in using GIS which I have used to analyse land usage in Mato Grosso, Brazil. I have also utilised GIS to create fair-copy maps of collected data from within the field. I use Microsoft Office frequently and can manipulate numerical data in Excel. I am skilled in navigating Digimap. Teamwork and Leadership – I enjoy working as a team as well as being able to perform well individually. Group work at university has helped me to refine these skills. This summer, I spent 3 weeks in the Lizard Peninsula, Cornwall, as the lead organiser for my dissertation mapping project. I was responsible for the accommodation and organisation of the trip. In my part-time job I have trained new employees at work allowed me to show off my leadership skills. Final Year Project – In Cornwall I mapped out an ophiolite sequence, the sequence of the transition of the Earth's mantle to the surface of the crust. After gathering the data collected from this mapping project, I am writing an 8000-word report about the sequence and the different rock types as well as doing a presentation on a fair copy map that I used my collected data to create. Other Skills - Full clean UK Driver’s Licence, experience with risk assessments and adaptability.
