The Bomsztyk Lab is a small lab at UW Medicine (Division of Allergy and Infectious Diseases) doing cutting-edge epigenetics research to tackle a variety of biomedical problems such as diabetes, kidney disease, HIV, and cancer. We utilize various molecular biology techniques to analyze cells and tissues for biomarkers of disease. We also continually innovate by developing and refining in-house software, technology, and processes to improve experimental throughput and research quality.Current Responsibilities:- Continues and expands on previous research tech role- Manages lab operations, including procurement and lab safety- Interviews, trains, and supervises new employees- Assists in the writing of lab publications- Advances quality of research and data analysis by integrating various fields outside the lab's expertise (e.g. Matlab programming, Next-Generation Sequencing)

- Worked on multiple research projects: epigenetics of diabetes, diabetic nephropathy, cancer, HIV, and more- Designed and ran experiments using techniques such as ChIP, PCR, RT-PCR, Western Blot, Chromatin Cross-linking and Shearing. Also wrote and revised lab protocols to improve the efficiency of these methods- Analyzed data using qPCR (SDS) and Excel software- Held responsibility for lab managerial duties such as ordering supplies, performing equipment maintenance, and ensuring lab safety procedures and training- Trained multiple undergraduate students and visiting scientists in our innovative lab techniques and delegated responsibilities to lab employees
