During Sixth Form, I took up a part-time job at my local branch of Waitrose & Partners. I worked weekends as a retail assistant whilst completing my A-Levels. When the coronavirus lockdown hit, I was lucky to be able to increase my hours to help out further. My role involved stock management, dealing with individual customer requests, and working the checkouts. When I started my degree at Lancaster University, my role at Waitrose changed. As a seasonal returner, I often enter into temporary agreements with the company to return outside of term dates.

Santa Cruz De Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain

Lancaster University afforded me the opportunity to work or study abroad during the third year of my Bachelor's Degree. So I decided to gain valuable experience as a Language Assistant in a combined education centre in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain. My time was split between the infant, primary and secondary schools at CEO Bethencourt y Molina, where my mission was to facilitate the provision of a high quality English education to all students. I benefitted from being able to provide an external insight into teaching methods and projects, sharing the importance of understanding culture as well as linguistic fluency. The experience contributed significantly to my personal development too. Developing engaging lesson plans taught me a lot about time management and media. Living abroad by myself for the first time also provided a series of problems, bureaucratic and otherwise, which, through solving them, fortified my mental resilience and drive. Importantly, through immersion into a different culture I can understand and communicate with others on a more profound level.
