I&C - Instrumentation and ControlsWorked as part of a team that managed all the instrumentation for Southern Company's fleet of power plants as well as working on controls logic and design for these instruments. I learned Emerson's Ovation software and hardware package and utilized it to help create a simulator system that is now used by power plant operators when training. I also worked in checkout and startup operations for multiple systems including Plant Barry Calcium Bromide system, Plant Hammond Controls System Upgrade, Plant Barry MRCS, and others. I also worked in the office designing IO sheets and P&ID's. With these I coordinated with other departments to attain correct information, I researched instruments to find data sheets and calibrations, I tagged out instruments, and laid out the DCS cabinets where the instrument wires were to be terminated and fed into the Ovation hardware package to be controlled and read. In addition I worked heavily with AutoCAD in order to complete many drawings, including P&ID's, control diagrams, revisions, as-builts, electrical drawings, and a large amount of my CAD work was designing loop sheets. Loop sheets are a combination of P&ID's, electrical drawings, and data sheets and are used by all plant personnel when navigating the plant and diagnosing, after the components have already been installed and commissioned. I attended group meetings and lead a few when given small responsibilities. I co-oped for four terms, and at the end of every term we were to create and make a presentation and present in front of all managers. I did this four times and every year got outstanding remarks for my ability to speak in front of crowds and for keeping the crowd engaged for what could be seen as boring material. I attended many power plant training courses throughout my work time and learned a great deal about how power plants work.
