For the past 15 years statistics, data science and machine learning have been my major interest in life. There is a real excitement to developing methods that discover relationships and properties hidden in seemingly impenetrable data.My particular passion is the Bayesian approach to statistics. I strongly believe that data science methods should be illuminating, rather than simply black-boxes, and I tend to focus on developing improved ways of learning interpretable models. However, I understand the value and importance of good predictions and am always looking for the best tools for any problem at hand.I am strongly committed to teaching in both academia and industry. I believe it is important to pass on the knowledge I have accumulated to the next generation of data scientists; as such I currently lecture two data science units at Monash University that I developed myself, as well as mentor a number of honours and postgraduate students.I have extensive experience in the development and application of novel statistical methodology and machine learning tools.
