In this position, I work with Special Needs Participants in a Tailored-Day Program as a Counsellor, Advocate, and Assistant. The Human Resource aspects of my position involve helping them to find jobs, as well as providing On-The-Job support and guidance, and occasionally acting as liaison between them and employers. In addition to this, I do my own scheduling by building a calendar, deciding when sessions and other functions would take place.The Social Work aspects of my job involve acting as a counsellor and advocate to program participants with developmental disabilities, as well as a point of contact with Coordinators at San Diego Regional Center. I help them to achieve higher independence by teaching life skills such as budgeting, mobility using public transportation, obtaining of driver’s licenses, college coursework assistance, and other independent living skills.

In this position, I taught English as a second language to Japanese Elementary, Junior High School, and High School students using a combination of activities, lectures, and drills from textbooks. In order to do this, I wrote lesson plans, created new exercises and materials, and even developed curricula for full semesters as well.I taught at both public and private schools throughout the Tokyo area. Depending on the desires of the school and the demands of the schedule at a given time, I functioned sometimes in the role of main teacher for the period, sometimes in a supporting position, but most often utilized a “team-teaching” method.In addition to this, I took responsibility over the choice, sequence, and progression of topics taught at some of my schools, as well as the planning and implementation of the lessons.
