Reported to the Society’s Deputy Director of Historic Programs and Education, led the development of a coherent, sustainable, useful and enjoyable variety of high quality gallery programs and experiences for the public. Cultivated and articulated the vision and sustained the traditions necessary to remain a relevant, public-centered museum in a time of economic challenge and dramatic cultural and political change. Contributed to the overall management of the Society through participation on the Senior Leadership Team. Responsible for projecting and planning institutional needs, setting priorities, and determining, finding and allocating resources to various programs according to the goals of the Society’s strategic plan. Assisted the development office in establishing fundraising goals and strategies for History Center programs and exhibitions.Proactively coordinated the efforts of other supporting areas of the Society as they intersected and interacted with the History Center Museum and its operations.Member of the Society’s Senior Leadership Team and made regular reports to the Society’s Director, Deputy Director and Executive Council.

Led the direction of exhibition long-range and master planning for a vital program interpreting history geared to all audiences. Articulates and communicates exhibit program vision and mission: an audience-centered, active learning approach to the interpretation of history providing multiple engagement points for diverse audiences, valuing the ways visitors understand and relate to the past, and giving voice to the historical experiences of people from all walks of life.Leads the direction, development and implementation of interpretive exhibitions for the History Center Museum, a facility comprising 43,000 square feet of gallery space, as well as at a network of 24 historic sites serving a combined audience of 700,000 visitors per year. Leads the drafting and coordination of departmental work plans including scheduling and budgeting for multiple, concurrent, multiyear exhibit projects, as well as for other departmental organizational and planning tasks. Oversees the exhibition selection process and assists the development office in articulating program vision and project goals to prospective funders and other internal and external stakeholders.Supervises and reviews the work of the exhibitions department of 18-45 full-time employees including specialized curatorial, research, design, project management, production, interactive and media development, lighting design, exhibit maintenance and clerical support staff. Manages a department payroll of plus/minus $2 million per year.

An annual program offered by the American Association of State and Local History for emergingleaders in the history museum and historic site field. Taught exhibition design and community engagement practices.

Led teams to research, conceptualize, develop and design exhibits on creativity and the creative process. Planned, designed and supervised the production of presentation materials and documents. Crafted, wrote and edited exhibition objectives and descriptions. Prepared and performed presentations to patrons, foundation board members and potential donors on exhibition development progress.

Responsible for the design, coordination, budgeting, scheduling and supervision of the production of exhibits, including floorplans, elevations and design, production and installation of exhibit label graphics. Also drafted exhibition RFP’s, bid out exhibition components and reviewed, contracted and supervised vendors.
