An experienced scientist with over 20 years experience studying the interplay between viruses and their hosts in order to develop virus-based gene therapeutics. My work has investigated basic mechanisms of virus replication and host immune responses to viral infections, as well as the development and preclinical evaluation of gene therapeutics that use adenovirus and AAV vectors to treat cancer and other endocrine, musculoskeletal, neurological, hematological, or infectious diseases. I received my training under Pedro Lowenstein and Maria Castro (PhD, University of Manchester), Andre Lieber (postdoc, University of Washington) and Dave Schaffer (postdoc, University of California - Berkeley). I currently work in the Vaccine and Infectious Disease Division at Fred Hutch in Seattle, where I am developing novel gene editing therapeutics that target persistent and currently incurable viral pathogens including HBV, HIV and HSV.
