𝗥𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗦𝗮𝘁-𝗫 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺:• Selective program for college students to design and fly a scientific payload onboard a NASA sounding rocket each summer𝗩𝗶𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗮 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗥𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗦𝗮𝘁-𝗫 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺:• Team of ~15 engineering students on either a mechanical or electrical subteam working to design, implement, and test an entire space payload𝗦𝗼𝗳𝘁𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗥𝗼𝗹𝗲:• Developing real-time embedded software for a space payload being launched to space• Writing the main TI MSP432 flight controller software loop (C++) for data collection and storage from an IMU, barometer, accelerometer, and micro SD card reader• Managing a team of subteam of engineers using GitLab Kanban development methodologiesThe presentation below shows how this experience is applicable to software engineering internships, especially those for space and embedded applications:

Remote Work

𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟬:• Worked on NASA JPL's newest Mars rover during the summer it was launched - Perseverance, which hosts a multitude of beautifully engineered systems such as Terrain Relative Navigation, the Adaptive Caching Assembly and robotic arm for sample caching, the first-ever helicopter on another planet, and the goal to retrieve these samples and study them on Earth.𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀:• Worked on a set of Python Linux command line tools used to view downlinked stored data from the rover in an organized and quick manner• Developed automated Jupyter Notebook test scripts in Python using rover APIs and the Mars rover Linux testbed to send commands and validate received messages• Aided research and development of Mars 2020 operations tools to view data during the rover's main mission on the surface of Mars𝗢𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀:• Large company dynamics, self-sufficiency, remote working, teamwork, joint development of code bases

𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 𝗦𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻:• Through the high school Virginia Summer Residential Governor's School for NASA Engineering program, I was 1 of 12 high school students selected in Virginia out of approximately 400 applicants (thus about 3% of applicants were selected for this program based on merit)𝗡𝗔𝗦𝗔 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁:• Worked in NASA's Electronic Systems Branch with a team of 3 other interns on a project to design a mechanism capable of mounting a micro-Raman spectrometer onto an autonomous ground vehicle and integrating the sensor into the rover's interior system architecture.
