Pre Doctoral Fellow
Graduate Electrical Engineering Intern
Chief Engineer (Nasa Sli)
Avionics Team Lead
As the Avionics Team Lead for the University of Pittsburgh's rocketry team I am leading a team of multidisciplinary engineers in the design, testing and construction of the avionics system of a high powered rocket. As a team lead I am responsible for monitoring the design progress, assigning tasks, and reviewing designs. I have also lead the writing of the team proposal and preliminary design report for the NASA student launch competition. In addition to my management role, I have also been heavily involved in the hardware design process. I am designing three printed circuit boards: one for the flight computer, air break system, and the ground control computer. These boards will be at the core of the avionics system for this years launch vehicle.
Avionics And Gps Subteam Member
As a Member of Pitt Rocketry I have helped design, build, and test the GPS and ground control systems for a high powered rocket designed to compete at NASA's Student Launch Competition. I have worked specifically on a MATLAB GUI designed to process flight data in real time and send commands to the flight computer. I have also contributed to multiple design reviews approved by NASA.
Undergraduate Researcher
Working in the lab of Dr. Tae Min Hong, I focused on various FPGA based tasks. I was funded in part by a NASA Pennsylvania Space Grant Consortium Research Scholarship. My tasks and accomplishments include the following:▪ Collaborated with other CERN researchers to implement pileup suppression algorithms in firmware▪ Utilized Vivado High-Level Synthesis (HLS) to implement multiple algorithms for solving a linear system of equations using a Xilinx FPGA.▪ Developed a Python-based testbench to analyze and verify the performance of algorithms in firmware▪ Designed an automated implementation process for boosted decision trees in firmware using Python and Vivado HLS▪ Synthesized C++ code for Vivado HLS using PythonThe attached poster was presented virtually at the April 2020 APS meeting.
Configurable Digital Logic Intern
Designed a Xilinx Zynq based engineering test fixture for a Raytheon developed ASIC− Oversaw full cycle of development from high-level design to hardware implementation− Designed a custom VHDL IP block to interface with and control the ASIC under test− Implemented a custom testbench for functional verification of firmware▪ Used Vivado SDK to program Zynq Arm-9 Processor with threaded Ethernet and UART drivers in a freeRTOS design▪ Developed a MATLAB based GUI to communicate with the engineering test fixture and streamline ASIC testing and verification− Collaborated with test engineers to design user-friendly interface for device testing− Implemented high-level testing interfaces to automate ASIC tests and results verification▪ Documented test fixture design and GUI with high-level diagrams and a comprehensive user’s guide
Component Engineering Intern
▪ Developed a Microsoft Access database with custom logic elements to monitor components for obsolescence − Developed written procedure to process over 150,000 part numbers − Enabled the transition to the new database and trained employees▪ Programmed 16-bit PIC microcontroller using embedded C to execute the power up sequence of a circuit card and communicate with external devices via I2C and UART▪ Implemented transfer functions in embedded C to read voltage levels from external ADC▪ Performed research and analysis of over 675 parts for obsolescence and material concerns
