Daniel J. Toscano is a founding partner of Drago + Toscano, LLP. His practice focuses on real estate, government relations, and criminal defense. Thanks to the sixteen years he spent at the State House working as a top aide and eventually Chief Legal Counsel to the Speaker of the Massachusetts House of Representatives, he possesses an excellent command of city, state, and community government, as well as the legislative process generally. He works closely with elected officials and governmental agencies on behalf of clients’ specific goals.Attorney Toscano’s chief focus is real estate and zoning law. He has extensive knowledge of and experience with the City of Boston Zoning Code. Daniel works closely with State and Municipal officials and neighborhood civic associations in zoning, land use, and licensing petitions.Attorney Toscano’s other primary focus is criminal defense. A panel attorney for Suffolk Lawyers for Justice (SLJ), he represents clients in all variety of matters. •General practice of law with focus on Criminal Defense and Real Estate Transactions. •Represent client from arraignment through trial; including, but not limited to, identify and researching legal issues, draft legal motions and memorandums of law in all criminal matters.•Work closely with District Attorney’s Office and Court personnel to provide efficient and effective legal representation.•Panel Attorney for Suffolk Lawyers for Justice (SLJ) assigned to the Central and Charlestown Divisions of the Boston Municipal Court; assist SLJ in advocating for their legislative agenda and budgetary priorities.•Handle Residential Real Estate Transactions, including, but not limited to, offer to purchase real estate, purchase and sale agreements, prepare and review all closing documents. •Extensive knowledge of the City of Boston Zoning Code. Provide legal representation before Boston’s Inspectional Services Department, Board of Appeals and Boston Redevelopment Authority regarding any residential, commercial and zoning matters. •Work closely with State, Municipal officials and neighborhood civic associations in zoning/land use and licensing petitions.

-Work directly with the Speaker to design and implement a legislative agenda; collaborate with House members and other public officials throughout the state to advance the agenda.-Draft, edit and analyze legislation and anticipate the legal implications of pending bills. -Work closely with legislators, in particular, House leadership, members of the Executive branch, municipal officials and other public and private entities throughout the Commonwealth in various capacities, including providing analysis of state budget, explanation of pending legislation, response to media inquiries and counsel on public policy proposals.-Oversee all Personnel and Business Office matters for the House of Representatives.

-Research legal issues and draft legislative proposals, public hearing testimony and speeches.

-Day-to-day contact with constituents; research legislative issues; coordinate with various agencies and consult legislative agents to address constituent concerns; evaluate special interest groups’ agendas.-Served within both the Committee on The Judiciary and the Committee on Banks and Banking.
