My vision is to provide support for teachers so that they can provide students with hands-on experiences and instruction that will better prepare students for their future. I have over fourteen years of experience as a Special Educator and have always enjoyed working closely with school children, parents, and staff members in order to help my students reach their full abilities as young adults.During my internship to complete my administrative degree, I gained valuable experience in staff development, resources and operations, and in family/community outreach. As Transition Team Leader in my current position, I have led multiple professional development sessions on Transition/IEP requirements, provided support for staff, and conducted a Transition Review for the entire school. I have also supervised morning busing/attendance (including updating the bus and bus room list monthly) and planned for both class and school-wide trips. I have successfully applied for grants, raising money for the students in my class and other students to take part in field trips and for classroom technology to enhance their education. Recently, I completed my School Building Leader (SBL) degree and School District Leader (SDL) degree through the CITE Program at the College of St. Rose.Working with students and developing meaningful relationships with them is particularly rewarding for me. Having strong connections with my students helps me inspire them to overcome various types of adversity. My students know explicitly that I understand their challenges; I am a wheelchair user following a traumatic accident during my undergraduate years. My students can identify with my hard-won self-confidence and this inspires them to pursue academic success, and beyond that, success in life despite their disability. As an aspiring administrator, I look forward to developing and supporting faculty and staff members who also share the same passion for working with this population.
