Daniel Treisman is a researcher specializing in the areas of pediatric and adult tumors of the central and peripheral nervous system. Using genetic alteration in model organisms and species, we are able to understand the mechanisms underlying these processes, and then develop therapy approaches based on this understanding.

My current studies expand upon research conducted during my graduate work. My primary project explores the molecular mechanism underlying treatment response in Sonic-hedgehog subgroup medulloblastoma. Secondary projects involve development and treatment of peripheral nervous system tumors, using a progressive model of plexiform neurofibromas and malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors.

During my graduate work, I joined the Zhu lab. After joining, I initially was placed on a team studying the role of Nf1 and Fbxw7 in glioblastoma. Shortly thereafter, I began work on my own primary project, investigating the role of p53 loss in medulloblastoma initiation. Additionally, I joined a research team investigating the molecular biology of tumors of the peripheral nervous system, including plexiform neurofibromas and malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors.

This position studied the formation of cancer stem-like cells from human glioma, and the molecular biology of these cells. Techniques included primary cell culture, molecular biology, xenograft modeling in NOD/SCID, and small animal imaging.
