Serve as assistant to Animal Resource Manager and in the absence of manager maintain functionality of facility. Provide animal care to UC Davis cattle at both feedlot and beef barn facilities in adherence to strict protocols and SOP’s. Supervise barn residents, student employees, volunteers, and students. Provide high level technical, data entry, and laboratory maintenance for necropsy facilities. NECROPSY ASSISTANCE:Prepare mammalian and avian carcasses, tissues, instruments, and supplies for post mortem examination. Open animal carcasses (livestock,horses, chicken, various other mammals and avian species). Correctly identify animals, animal tissues and organ systems. Receive live and dead mammalian and avian animals and tissues. Handle specimens, record clinical histories, and ensure specimen submission form completeness. Perform post-mortem examination and sample collection on mammalian and avian specimens, following established protocols for specific disease conditions, as guided by clinical history and lesions. Sample tissue for bacteriology, toxicology, immunology and preparing samples for virology,EM, biotechnology, etc. Record and describe gross necropsy findings for use by pathologist in generation of report. Perform brain extraction on various mammalian and avian species. Collect blood from live animals and administer euthanasia for necropsy. Using custom data base, collect, identify and distribute specimens to other lab sections or storage locations. Remove animals and/or tissue after examination and store or dispose of hazardous materials. Train and assist with supervision of student assistants. Provide photographic record of dissections and case material for teaching, publication and documentation. SPECIMEN PROCESSING/CAHFS SAMPLES:Process/trim fixed tissues obtained from diagnostic animal necropsy and/or biopsies and prepare tissue samples for embedding in an embedding medium. Record number of tissue blocks prepared and correspond tissue blocks to particular lesions or anatomic parts on documents provided to pathologists.

Identify veterans who meet eligibility of Homegrown By Heroes Label Program and recruit for label certification. Enroll and maintain certified veterans within the Homegrown By Heroes Label. Provide information about our programs and services to the community and veterans interested in agriculture. Participated in Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan) 2012 - 2013. Performed mounted security operations and bridge repair missions through out the country of Afghanistan. Attended weekend drills once a month and was the Unit Prevention Leader for my unit the 132nd MRBC. As a Unit Prevention Leader it is was my responsibility to administer a substance abuse program for the unit. I also functioned as a team leader supervising lower enlisted soldiers in our duties to ensure unit mission readiness.

Student herd manger at Beef Cattle Facilities; facilities included 650 head feedlot, 50 acres of irrigated pasture, and two offsite properties totaling 700+ acres. Responsibilities included herd health such as periodic health checks, feeding, administering vaccinations and handling of cattle. Additional duties include facility maintenance which includes building and welding fencing and plumbing corral water troughs for cattle. Additional part-time duties included working in the feedmill when they needed extra assistance making rations for university cattle, sheep and horses. Also cut and baled hay in the beef unit fields when needed.
