In 4 years I was able to gain invaluable hands on experience on all facets of a power station control system. I designed logic based on customer provided functional descriptions, including developing simulations to test the logic, often challenging designs and making improvements for a better product in the end. Along with software development my office based engineering included hardware design, for both Siemens systems, and third party interfaces. I was actively involved in all site activities, often coordinating with Siemens and other staff to ensure coverage on all work. Site work includes system setup and network preparation, loop commissioning and functional commissioning. I was most involved with sequence and detailed logic commissioning. I can effectively manage engineering, commissioning and operational expectations. I was proactive and engaged myself in all areas of commissioning, even when the work was not directly related to me. I found, during trip investigations and other discussions, numerous issues with the design, construction and implementation of systems, and proposed changes to improve those systems, including additional alarms and improved logic.During my work with Siemens I was involved in many projects, and assisted technically on many more. I developed processes which could radically reduce the implementation times of basic logic structures, which allowed me to focus more on customer engagement and validation of the design. These tips and processes were sought after by many other project teams. Most notably I could reduce IO implementation from 5-10 per hour to over 1000 per hour. Show less
