Duties:Making sure the designs are ready for print by proofreading, spell checking and making sure they’re in the correct format (ie CMYK / added bleed / any specials) this may also include liaising with the printers to get quotes and to make sure there is enough production time.Running Anchors online marketing system - We have an online system where users are able to log on and she for items they need for their locations, this is usually promo items and specific location brochures but can be special items like window decals. As part of the online system we have a section where our locations can go and create posters, banners or even invites they need for upcoming events, this saves time for the design team so we can work on more important projects. We have created these templates so they stick to brand guidelines and can be either printed by themselves or they can go direct to be professionally printed.Working with the advertising team to create adverts for print, out of home and digital by using the templates to re-size and create. The majority of the adverts we create are for national newspapers so having a knowledge of exporting work for these types of newspapers. Working with our media agency to create dynamic digital adverts is an essential part of our business. We will also have direct marketing campaigns that we do for our new developments, these are usually done in different sizes depending on the event. Out of home is also a large part of advertising that we do, we usually do 6 sheet and 48 sheet billboards in specific locations to help sell our new developments.Working closely with the digital team to help create the new website. As brand guardian this includes making sure they are using the correct logos and choosing the correct images for the right pages.
Graphic Designer
Duties:• I was the sole designer working for Platinum labels in Bradford and I did all their creative work creating designs for print, including business cards, logos, labels, POS and brochures • Getting designs ready for print, this includes adding bleeds and pointing out any pantone colours to the printer if there are any, then sending it to the digital printer • Creating plates for the lithographic printer. The printer can print up to 5 colours but usually we tried to make it just CMYK. The plates were created on InDesign and then sent to the plate maker which was operated by the production manager • One of my jobs was to make sure the colours were correct when they were printed on the litho machine, this meant checking pantone books, printouts and screen tests to see if the colours were right • Creating the foiling dyes, embossing dyes or cutting forms, these were sent externally to be produced but the artwork was produced by me • Liaising with clients to get the best out of their design, this was done in four different ways, either by the client coming in to sit with me where we would go over their designs, over the phone and then do the changes later, over email or through a sales adviser where he/she would go visit the client and see what changes are neededAchievements Having worked in graphic design for a long time I got to see a part that is usually unseen by designers and that part is the production and printing, in this job I have got to see this part and had to solve problems which usually have to be solved by the printers. The job has made me more aware of colours and how it can affect the printing process and I have been given good knowledge about how to rectify problems that occur when and how to do it differently next time.
Graphic Designer
In 2010 I worked as a graphic designer in Switzerland for a large piping systems company. During this time I gained lots of knowledge and grown as a designer. Duties: • Collaborating with other designers and clients from all around the world including; China, Japan, Australia, USA and Germany. • My main job in the company was to create brochures and corporate documents while adhering to the corporate guide lines. I used Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator to design brochures and I updated existing brochures where I would have to liaise with the design manager and the specific marketing team to get these right. • This also included producing brochures in different languages. • I also created posters and flyers for exhibitions. As part of my job I would go out to exhibitions to help out with the design work on site, and making sure the design work was correctly hung on the walls so that the posters looked appealing. • Once a brochure had been created they then needed to be sent via the internet to the printing company, this included packaging the whole design in InDesign and writing any special requirements that were needed. • Occasionally we would get an external company to undertake the advertising in which I liaised with the company on a number of occasions, this would include what was wrong and what needed changing and whether they had followed the correct guidelines. AchievementsWhile working at Georg Fischer they took over a new company (TP Piping). I helped create a new brand within the company (TP-Piping), creating the brochures and design for a new company that they had taken over which was similar to Georg Fischer based in Italy. They needed to change all the design for this company so gave me the task of creating this. I designed all the new brochures and helped create the website by sourcing images and giving advice on how they should be positioned. I was also able to create the style guideline to how I wanted them to be.
