4th year pharmacy student at Monash University with over 5 years experience in community pharmacy. Having completed a Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences in 2021, I spent 1 year working, travelling and determining what I wished to pursue after completing my first undergraduate studies. My extensive work experience in a pharmacy piqued my interest in medications, and thus I made the decision to commence my pharmacy journey via graduate entry where I completed an accelerated program to join 3rd year in 2023.I have undergone placement in several sites encompassing both community and hospital. These placements have refined my skills in adaptability, critical thinking and communication. My placement experience are as follows:Priceline Pharmacy Southland for 2 weeks in 2023.Alfred Health - Sandringham Hospital for 2 weeks in 2023.Commercial Road Pharmacy for 4 weeks in 2024.Grampians Health - Ballarat Base Hospital for 4 weeks in 2024.Through my community placement experiences, it has exposed me to various dispensing software and subsequently I am skilled in using Minfos, DispenseWorks and FRED. Having worked in community since 2019, my community placements helped solidify my existing knowledge and enabled me to build relationships with both supervisors, staff and patients. I am confident in OTC and all prescription medication counselling with patients, and am aware when to refer to other senior staff for assitance. I am also aware about PBS claiming including codes and entitlements, claim serialisation, and the maintenance of prescription records.My hospitals placements highlighted the difference between community and hospital, however I was able to quickly adapt and I thrived under the pressure. I thoroughly enjoyed my hospital experience, hence encouraging me to apply for a regional placement with Grampians Health in 2024 as I felt that this would further expose to the clinical side of pharmacy, especially in a regional environment. The 4 weeks at Ballarat Base Hospital has left a lasting impression on me and it was extremely rewarding to have undergone placement there. My hospital experience has refined my clinical knowledge and helped tailor my communication with not only patients but also to other health professionals.
