Lead attorney for the CalRecycle program implementing the Plastic Pollution Prevention and Packaging Producer Responsibility Act (SB 54). My work on SB 54 began while it was being drafted and considered by the California legislature. I continue to work with CalRecycle to develop regulations and advise on every aspect of SB 54 implementation. I am also the lead attorney with respect to environmental marketing issues related to recyclability and compostability, sustainable packaging, the mattress “EPR” (extended producer responsibility) program, the Recycling and Disposal Reporting System, and the bans on single-use grocery store bags.

At Rogoway Law Group, my services spanned various practice areas, including intellectual property, employment law, regulatory compliance, litigation, and general business counseling.I assisted companies, including cannabis companies, develop their protectable intellectual property, including trademarks and trade secrets. I worked with companies, for example, to analyze the viability of their trademarks and build a strategy for obtaining government recognition of their rights in those trademarks.I also drafted agreements for use in cannabis businesses and help companies comply with the rigorous regulatory framework currently under development in California.Finally, I represented clients in any business disputes that arise, including trademark, copyright, general commercial disputes.

(See below for description of previous position as Associate, October 2008 - November 2014)As a Client Relations Manager, I managed the firm's business development efforts with respect to the firm's largest and strategically most important clients. By analyzing a particular client's needs and understanding the competitive landscape, I helped the firm identify opportunities to add value to the services we provide and deepen existing relationships. I played an active role in improving the ability of our attorneys to collaborate, including by introducing new tools and devising more efficient ways of communicating and storing important information. Drawing on my undergraduate education and previous experience working on complex data sets, I also conducted data analysis to help the firm identify trends and discover the relative effectiveness of its various business development efforts.

As an associate, my work focused on general commercial and intellectual property litigation, including trademark, trade secret, utility and design patent, and antitrust disputes. I worked extensively on three jury trials, including ICU v. RyMed, a medical device patent case. I played a central role in creating and executing our case strategy and was a member of the small team that attended trial in Delaware. We succeeded in obtaining validity and infringement verdicts. In 2011 and 2012, I also had an integral role in Apple v. Samsung, a complex utility patent, design patent, trade dress, and trademark case. My duties in that case included working directly with multiple expert witnesses to guide them through the process of expert discovery, including advising on the drafting of expert reports, and preparing them for testifying at depositions and trial. I also worked on discovery and trial generally, including preparation for and defending depositions, drafting discovery responses, and drafting motions. During my time as an associate at the firm, MoFo was named by Law360 as IP Practice Group of the Year (2012), by Chambers USA as IP Firm of the Year (2013), and by BTI as as one of three IP Litigation Powerhouses (2013).

I served as an instructor for the Legal Research and Writing class in the summer session of UC Berkeley School of Law's LL.M program. Each of my students was a licensed attorney from a foreign jurisdiction, including Germany, France, Lebanon, Israel, Pakistan, India, and China. I taught students the fundamentals of the U.S. legal system and how to practice in it. I instructed students on all aspects of the research and writing process, including how to spot legal issues, research legal questions, and write legal memoranda in the style expected of U.S. lawyers.

In between my second and third years of law school, I was a summer associate at Littler Mendelson, a firm that specializes in employment and labor law. My central role was to perform legal research and analysis on labor and employment matters, including fact gathering and drafting research memoranda, position statements, and advice letters. I guided clients on issues such as discrimination complaints, labor disputes, and wage and hour class actions. I also participated in labor negotiations and hearings.While I received an offer for permanent employment, I decided to accept a competing offer from Morrison & Foerster.
