How come PIX came first than SFD instant payment blockchain network? Well, innovation comes with a price. Like a colleague once told me, it takes some generations to dare to change things with less fear. In between, I've learned a lot with this experience and I'm now working to make PIX happen as smoothly as possible at BB. Huge work, huge learning!

Now the challenge is blockchain. I work as a software engineer in a blockchain system that proposes to operate fast payments and interbank financial exchange. The project is lead by a consortium of Brazilian banks and aims to, humbly speaking, revolutionize the national bank system. (NodeJs, Java, Docker, Openshift, Kubernetes, Hyperledger Fabric, GItlab)

Back in those days I was responsible for maintaining and evolve a distributed and centralized platforms integration middleware. This system provided Java and Cobol APIs, network connectivity, high level network proprietary protocol and a strong link with the bank diffuse infrastructure (Java, Netty, Tibco RendezVous, Tibco EMS, IBM MQ);

In this period I've participated in a project that developed an wide web business platform for the whole network of bank offices in Banco do Brasil that integrated several core business systems. Back then backend employees tools were a mix of 3270 mainframe terminals with other non standardized software (Java, JSF, Facelets, Javascript, JQuery, CVS);

This was the beginning of a period of developing systems and APIs that aimed to standardize the profusion (in number and in structure) of web applications in the company. The fist one was maintaining and evolving a proprietary and corporate content manager system and its Java APIs (Hibernate, XForms, Struts, CVS, DB2);

Those days were the most prolific in my professional life until then. I've started in the Technology Department in Banco do Brasil - the main one -, and has been, before that, a Clipper and C programmer, as well as working in computer support. But, in this period I've learned Cobol, JCL and other heavy drugs in the mainframe world. I've worked a lot with huge batch systems, programmed in Cobol, CA Natural, defined and created DB2 and CA Adabas databases, and was waked up during the night several times to fix those kind of things that can stop a bank of working the next morning... A whole new world! I really don't miss it, but I do value the knowledge and experience acquired during those days.

At this point I operated small computer systems and standalone software, as well as provided support to applications the bank offered to its clients - mostly written in Clipper, that connected enterprise clients with the bank main services: accounts, investments, payroll payment services. Difficult part was trying to make connectivity work between bank and clients! Dialing from antiquated (but not then!) modems wasn't a pleasuring thing to do... Tuff days...
