  • The Heirloom Treasury
    Founder & Managing Director
The Heirloom Treasury Aug 2014 - May 2022
    Randburg, Gauteng, South Africa
In founding The Heirloom Treasury, my main aim was to develop and increase opportunities for local South African crafters and designers, to collaborate more and increase access to more lucrative business opportunities with high-end brands. In addition, I sought to maximise the potential of, and exposure to, local design and craft.Through implementation of a business model focused on building strong relationships (with clients and a broad network of local designers and crafters) and unique, quality products made to last, the business achieved what I hoped it would, and we became the preferred supplier to many of the best luxury brands, in travel, marketing, events and banking (amongst others).Working with all the incredible clients, manufacturers, designers and crafters was an remarkable experience. In my almost 8 years of building and managing this venture, I achieved far more than I had initially imagined I would. I honed my stakeholder management skills, and took my relationship-building skills to a new level, too. But more than anything, I learned how to sell ideas to clients and collaborators, and how to activate multiple projects and strategies at once, and ensure that the ideas and designs we came up with achieved success, in meeting and exceeding client expectations and goals, while further developing the range, scope and business scalability goals of the designers and crafters I was working with, and my own business. In the end, though the business was a great success for many years, the Covid-19 pandemic was a big knock to our main client industries. And that, together with my emigration to New Zealand with my family, led me to close the business.
  • Vula Vula Research Services
    Founder And Managing Director
Vula Vula Research Services May 2009 - May 2014
    Johannesburg Area, South Africa
Through founding Vula Vula Research Services, I was successful in developing a genuine avenue to communicating with and understand the minds, needs and preferences of the South African township and rural market, in relation to consumer research. In my role as founder and CEO, I developed a high achieving (remote) workforce, focusing on recruiting and interviewing township and rural community members and residents for effective consumer research studies for high-end brands. I assisted in achieving improved recruitment and career opportunities by employing, training, and up-skilling youth and adults from disadvantaged backgrounds. Additionally, I devised effective strategies to provide a well-paid, inclusive, flexible, and independent working environment for employees to be able to enjoy a healthy work/life balance and take good care of their families, while still being employed. Vula Vula Research Services became the preferred supplier to all major market research agencies in Gauteng by consistently delivering high quality, reliable and engaging market research participants. I sold Vula Vula Research Services in 2014 by receiving identification as a worthwhile business acquisition from Awethu Project in 2013 (a business incubator that focuses on youth entrepreneurship).
  • Lovelife
External Consultant - Project & Change Manager (Ngo)
    Lovelife Jun 2011 - Dec 2012
    Sandton, Johannesburg
Managed the entire project and change process, for an organisation-wide shift, from paper-based research and monitoring to a new digital system. This included working with both internal stakeholders at The New LoveLife Trust (spread out across urban and rural South Africa), and the external digital application developers, developing, testing and implementing the new system. I was also in charge of designing and developing all the training materials for the new system, and co-facilitating large group training sessions, nationwide. And, during the final implementation stages, I was tasked with setting up, training and launching a new Digital Application Support Team. The process ran smoothly throughout the 18 month change period, and the system was launched with very few hiccups, on time and according to the target time-frames.
  • Panel Services Africa (Marketingscience)
Client Services Manager And Creative Communications Executive
Panel Services Africa (Marketingscience) Mar 2008 - May 2009
    Ferndale, Johannesburg
In my role as Client Services and Creative Communications Manager at Panel Services Africa, I fostered a positive collaboration culture through relationship and community management of the online market research panels. I contributed to the overall outline purpose and scope of projects by presenting project proposals and managing client relations. I also achieved significant success with clients in designing effective and aesthetically sound online market research community platforms.Using my excellent project management and community engagement skills, I ensured smooth flow of project operations by co-ordinating multiple tasks within time and budgetary constraints and continuously increasing engagement by the public on the market research platforms.I resigned from the company due to having identified a gap in the market research industry for engaging more authentically with the township and rural markets.
