CIRES is a chemical company specialized in the manufacture PVC resins of the suspension type (S-PVC) and the emulsion type (E-PVC) which are used as raw materials in manufacturing processes such as extrusion, calendering, blow-moulding, injection-moulding, coating and rotational moulding.As technician in the pilot reactor installation the main functions reside mainly in the study for the optimization of the S-PVC production process and the development/optimization of S-PVC recipes.

Thesis Subject: "Determinação do teor de matérias extraíveis com solventes - estudo comparativo para implementação de novo método de análise"The main goal of the thesis was to implement an automated analysis method, the Soxtec, more efficient, in the control of a crucial parameter in the production process and in the evaluation of the final product of the company. In order to accomplished that goal, it was performed a comparative study between the results obtained in the the classical method, method used in the Cortadoria's laboratory, which establish the use of Soxhlet and the solvent dichloromethane (DCM), and the automated method with the same solvent and with another one that has a lower impact in human health and the environment.

I had the opportunity to intern in the R&D department, where the big challenge is "to defeat the 2,4,6-TCA, the main cause of the so-called "cork stain" in wine".During the internship, I gained some knowledge of cork quality control and participated in several tasks, of wich stand out:- Maceration of corks and sample preparation for sensory analysis and to the compound maceration (Solid Phase Micro Extraction – Gas Chromatography – Eletron Capture Dissociation/Mass Spectrometry, SPME – GC - ECD/MS analysis).
