Hardware Design InternDaktronics May 2011 - Dec 2011Brookings, SdThe skill that I have learned most, is not technical in nature. The skill is professionalism. My internship taught me how to perform in a corporate world. I learned to not hesitate and instead, take the initiative. At first I did not want to screw up, but as it turns out it is easier to screw up trying not to screw up than it is trying my hardest. I had many responsibilities placed upon me and I executed to the best of my ability on every single assignment. The following were my achievements as the Hardware Design Intern at Daktronics.I helped develop a new color calibration method for large scale LED video displays. During the development I helped improved calibration tac times from 30 minutes per 6 modules to 3 minutes per 6 modules, I created an engineering and technician manual, and I trained the manufacturing operators about the new procedures.I developed new procedures in using a spectrometer in manufacturing. The new procedures improved measurement consistency and created a company-wide spectrometer integrity tracking method.I developed quality assurance testing procedures for surface mount oscillators. I created a standard for measuring cycle to cycle jitter and for measuring rise and fall times of positive and negative edges.During my testing and research I discovered how to find and analysis spectral wave differences between two different LED manufactures using a PR670 spectrometer. This happened when a spectrometer would measure two separate LED modules with two different LED manufactures as the same color and luminance, but visually they would not look the same. I also found out by consulting with Photo Research and Radiant Imaging that there are some errors with the standard algorithm when a spectrometer measures two separate LED modules with two different LED manufactures as the same color and luminance (mostly with the color blue); a committee is currently trying to resolve this issue. -
