(2004-2009) Technical lead and program manager, Next Generation Optical Access Network Research. Created and drove vision, strategy and research agenda in support of Motorola’s optical access networks business unit. Established technical focus on extended reach Gbit/s passive optical networks (GPONs) and 10 Gbit/s PONs. Led a team in architecture and prototype development including an all-optical GPON reach extender, 10/2.5Gbit/s PON and wavelength agile PON. Built internal and external partnerships, and created thought leadership through standards, publications and customer interaction. (2003-2004) Chief networking architect and member of core team for an ultrawideband wireless mesh home network. (2002-2003) Program manager and acting product manager for exploratory work toward millimeter wave, point-to-point, line-of-sight wireless drop (distribution plant to customer). Led a small team through requirements, feasibility and high level design and performed competitive analysis, factory cost modeling, and preliminary business case development.(1994-2003) Internal consulting role, with concurrent involvement in multiple projects and exploratory activities. Areas of technical focus included IP, Quality-of-Service, ATM, home networking, cable, FTTx, DSL, and wireless infrastructure. (1988-93) Principal Staff Engineer. Developed network architecture for a pioneering cell switched networking system. (1987-89) Senior Staff Engineer Technical co-leader of a group developing reusable ISDN Call Control Signaling Software in C. (1986-87) Principal SW Engineer Responsible for ISDN call control software telephone terminal adaption software in C, and ISDN standardization.(1981-86) Senior SW Engineer Led design and development of an X.25 gateway in C and 68000 assembler.
