I lead all interactions with the federal government regarding the company's tax positions, engage in negotiations and advise on global risk management strategies when it comes to tax and financial issues. My responsibilities also include advising on issues such as privilege, discovery and document retention matters.

Tax controversy competency leader for the Central Region of the United States, acting in a leadership capacity to provide intervention guidance, advice, risk management solutions, and critical issue support for over 9,000 professionals, including Deloitte Tax LLP’s India operations.• Represented companies negotiations with the U.S. government, contesting the assertion of liabilities and achieving successful settlements. • Provided advice to a Fortune 500 companies regarding issues of confidentiality and privilege in connection with governmental investigations.

Represented clients in litigation before the U.S. Tax Court, and the U.S. District Court of Northern Illinois, including drafting litigation hold notices, drafting petitions and complaints, conducting witness interviews and depositions, managing the discovery process, and managing experts. Represented clients in regulatory matters before the U.S. government and advised on risk mitigation efforts to minimize chances of government investigation.• Litigated a tax shelter case involving an intermediary transaction in which the US government sought to recoup over $50 million in benefits, resulting in successful settlement prior to the hearing before the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. • Led an independent internal investigation of a corporate client to ascertain its risk of sanctions or penalties if a government inquiry were conducted in connection with financial products offered to third parties.

Represented taxpayers before the U.S. government in regulatory investigations, and as part of litigation teams that tried cases before the U.S. Tax Court, the U.S. Federal Court of Claims, and in post-trial appeals to the U.S. Circuit Courts of Appeals. Researched and drafted memoranda and opinions related to complex tax and corporate governance issues. • Represented and led logistical operations for a group of 1,000 professionals in a dispute before the IRS regarding their treatment of interests in a partnership after the entity dissolved, resulting in a settlement of approximately 3 percent of the amounts sought by the U.S. government. • Elected as a member of Mayer Brown Chicago Committee of Associates 2008 – 2010 by peer group. Served as a member of Mayer Brown Technology Focus Panel 2010 and an associate intern mentor 2006 – 2009.
