I led a team of more than 15 senior and junior editors, social media managers, and designers. During meetings, I delegated responsibilities to the editorial board and engaged with my team to generate enthusiasm about the journal. I served as a liaison between editors and authors, communicating deadlines over email and Slack to maintain our online publication schedule. In addition, I met frequently with the journal's print designers, treasurer, and social media managers to check in about progress towards our goals and initiatives. I developed new projects to increase audience engagement and to promote diversity and inclusion in our organization.

I review and edit weekly submissions to prepare them for publication online and in print. I also pitch, research, and write quarterly submissions, then revise my writing after receiving feedback. At weekly meetings, I contribute to editorial board discussions about content, design, and publicity. As a senior editor, I mentor junior editors through the editorial process as they adjust to the position. Responsibilities also include communication with student organizations and campus leadership about collaborations and funding. In 2019, I launched the journal's first Twitter account and engaged readers with interesting, relevant tweets about journal submissions. I will resume this role during the 2020-2021 academic year.

I joined The Aggie Transcript in 2018 as a junior editor, receiving mentorship from senior editors as I transitioned into the role.

I developed an original NSF-style research proposal to assess the effectiveness of various communication approaches by public health organizations and science communicators in reaching teens on TikTok with reliable information about masks, social distancing, vaccines, etc., during the pandemic. I conducted a literature review and collected preliminary data from TikTok accounts, synthesizing multiple types of information and sources into a cohesive research proposal. I presented the proposal to an audience of science communicators, outreach experts, my peers, and the public, drawing on training about the art of presenting ideas effectively and translating complex topics into accessible language. I also discussed recent science communication research articles and methodologies with my mentors and peers during weekly team meetings, building upon my understanding of the science communication research landscape.

I am collaborating with Dr. Alexandra Colón-Rodríquez, a B3—Birds, Brains, and Banter—Lab postdoctoral scholar, to develop a science communication training program for UC Davis faculty. In this role, I assist with workshop development, outreach, and documentation. I also contribute to design and maintenance of the program's website. This training program is set to launch virtually in the fall of 2020.The B3 Lab studies parental care behaviors of Columba livia—the rock dove or common pigeon. Research in the lab explores how parenting affects the avian neuroendocrine system, how stress influences their reproduction, and how birds respond to their changing environment. In the lab's aviary, I assist with husbandry duties, which include feeding the birds, cleaning their cages, and caring for sick or injured birds.

During the summer and fall months, I teach swim lessons to children of all ages. On occasion, I work with adult swimmers as well. To date, I've taught 100+ children with diverse swimming abilities about water safety, breathing, stroke, and endurance. In my role, I've learned to manage multiple students at a time, ensuring the safety of all participants while creating a fun learning environment.

As a lifeguard, my primary responsibilities include surveillance of patrons in and around the water, prevention of land and aquatic injuries, appropriate and swift reaction to emergencies, enforcement of facility rules, and the education of patrons regarding dangerous behaviors. I also monitor pool chemistry, assist patrons, complete reports, and open/close the facility. My managerial responsibilities are extended to include set-up, organization, staffing, and take-down during swimming meets and water polo tournaments.

I developed skills in science curriculum design and created inquiry-based learning activities for middle school students. In collaboration with two peers, I designed and executed a lesson plan about the effects of human behavior on climate change in sixth and eighth grade classrooms at a local Davis public school.The internship included weekly meetings with a larger group about STEM education practices and challenges, including experiential learning, guided inquiry, backward design, language differences, and the Next Generation Science Standards. Smaller meetings with my collaborators and our mentor focused on applying these lessons to classroom experience.

I led the Aggie Traditions program, ensuring that 3+ quarterly events were scheduled, organized, and implemented. I collaborated with campus units to promote Aggie Pride and delegated event-planning roles to fellow board members. My fondest memory was emceeing the 105th Pajamarino Homecoming Pep Rally, attended by over 500 students, staff, alumni, and community members.As a member of the Outreach Council, I tracked and reviewed membership involvement for each event, helped develop strategies to increase membership, and coordinated outreach efforts with the Digital Media Director and the Vice President of Outreach. In addition, I contributed to events planned by the Networking and Community Service councils.

As a Resident Advisor, I fostered the formation of meaningful connections and peer relationships through interactions with over 60 first-year residents, aiding them in their transition to college life. I promoted an inclusive environment with a variety of academic programs and socials.I also mediated various conflicts throughout a larger area of over 400 residents, confronting violations of policy in an educational and appropriate manner. I worked effectively with a team of fellow Resident Advisors and a Senior Resident Advisor, contributing to team building with positivity and flexibility.

A Students' Mission to Mars focused on astrobiology and engineering in space. I participated in the program's research trip to Lassen Volcanic National Park, built functioning rockets for official launch, programmed mini-rovers to navigate a complicated course, and delivered a team presentation about Enceladus, one of Saturn's many moons, on the final day. In the process, I gained experience in communication and public speaking.
