About Daniel Bruce

If you ask me, science is more fun when something goes wrong. My favorite thing about being a researcher is explaining to someone else the process of designing an experiment to answer some question, how we troubleshoot and optimize the methodology, and what the data mean. I am an expert in Behavioral Pharmacology, with extensive experience in animal models of pain, analgesia, drug abuse and clinically relevant side effects. Additionally, I have spent the last 6 years working as a part of a interdisciplinary team, where I both collaborated with peers as well as trained and mentored undergraduate students. My thesis project resulted in the University of Minnesota submitting a patent application on behalf of my co-inventors and myself for the use of my novel opioid combination for the treatment of chronic pain. Outside of the lab, I have taken advantage of the opportunity to communicate my research to a wide variety of lay and expert audiences through journal publications, poster presentations, lectures and community outreach programs. While I spent the last 6 years immersed in the fascinating worlds of chronic pain and opioid therapeutics, I also have a BA in Political Science and pride myself on the ability to absorb and synthesize new and disparate information quickly. If you catch me outside of work, I’m probably cooking, playing/watching sports, or chasing my daredevil son around.
