I lead a team of inspiring people at the Centre for Disaster Protection, finding better ways to stop disasters devastating lives.

Responsible for advice and analytics for various government departments including DFID, HM Treasury and DWP, and providing support and peer review for a wide range of other insurance work.

I led the World Bank-GFDRR Disaster Risk Finance and Insurance Program’s analytics and agricultural insurance themes, and coordinated its operational work in South East Asia, working closely with the program manager on all aspects of this high quality, innovative programme. Over my time with the World Bank I worked with over forty developing country governments to design and implement financial solutions on sovereign disaster risk financing, property catastrophe risk insurance, agricultural insurance, and disaster-linked social protection. I was Task Team Leader for three grant-financed global projects: a US $7 million project to build the capacity of Ministries of Finance to understand and use analytical disaster risk finance information; a US $7 million project on public private partnerships for agricultural insurance; and a US $3 million project to strengthen the evidence base on the impact of potential disaster risk finance solutions.

Lecturing and examining for a 16 lecture course in financial mathematics, taken by over one hundred finalist mathematicians and twenty graduate statisticians. Supervised 19 dissertations on actuarial topics.

Advised companies and trustees on actuarial aspects of UK pension arrangements.
