I undertook a work placement as part of my Foundation Degree course. I worked as an Animal Keeper at the Zoo maintained by Reasheath College. As well as being a functioning zoo open to the public, the facility is used by the students at Reaseheath for practical studies.I was responsible for all aspects of Animal Care during my time at Reaseheath, specifically food preparation and feeding, cleaning out, grooming, enclosure maintenance, liaising with and advising members of the public and assisting students.

I worked as a volunteer at the RSPCA's Small Animal Rescue centre in Wallasey, which dealt mainly with cats. My main duties were food preparation, feeding and generally caring for the animals and socialising them. The animals taken in by the centre were generally strays or rescue animals so socialising with them was an important part of their rehabilitation, so making them easier to rehouse.

During my summer vacation, I took a position as a volunteer at Pets At Home in Bromborough, where I had previously undertaken a short work placement as part of me NVQ studies. I was responsible for preparing the animals and their enclosures prior to the shop opening. This would involve grooming, feeding and cleaning the enclosures so they were in prime condition before the store opened. During opening hours, I would undertake a range of tasks including general animal care, assisting customers with queries or taking large or heavy purchases out to customer's vehicles, stock maintenance and store maintenance
