About Daniel Lander
Daniel completed his Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering at the University of Sydney, Australia in 2009. During his time at USYD, Daniel was employed by the Environmental Hydraulics Laboratory as an undergraduate researcher. He also had the opportunity to participate in a research internship at the Centre Scientifique et Technique du Bâtiment in Nantes, France, where he worked with the wind and structures group. After graduating with honors, he worked professionally for 2 years as a project engineer at VIPAC Engineers and Scientists. Daniel came to RPI to pursue his PhD in the Fall 2012, studying under Professor Letchford & Professor Amitay. Daniel subsequently took a Lecturing position in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at RPI where he teaches Thermal-Fluid Engineering I, Wind Engineering and Introductory to Engineering Design.Daniel's research interests are concerned with fundamental questions in wind engineering where wind interacts with the built environment. He is particularly interested in Reynolds number effects on laminar-to-turbulent transition in shear layers, vortex shedding from square prisms and scale effects of free stream turbulence on peak pressure generation in separating/recirculating flow from blunt edges. Daniel has published in the preeminent fluid mechanics journals and was recently the author of the project description of the NSF funded proposal: Model to Full-Scale Validation of Peak Pressure Mechanisms in Buildings that Cause Cladding Failures and Windstorm Damage, where he remains in an advisory role.Outside of the academic life, Daniel is a board member, organizer, volunteer and mechanic at Troy Bike Rescue. Dan enjoys urban farming and raising chickens. He rides bikes for transport, exercise and fun!
Listed skills include Civil Engineering, Wind, Wind Engineering, Matlab, and 14 others.

Project Engineer
Project engineer in the Building Infrastructure Group specialising in energy design, management and prediction of residential, industrial and commercial building environments. Thermal simulations used to inform design and meet voluntary or mandatory standards of green buildings. Member of the Association of Building Sustainability Assessors (ABSA).
Stagiaire
Stagiaire with the French building research institute Centre Scientifique et Technique du Bâtiment (CSTB). I was charged with the responsibility of developing and implementing an algorithm to correct multi-channel aerodynamic pressure measurement system subject to tubing distortions. The project dealt with the dynamic response of complicated tubing systems to ensure the validity of the instrumentation and signal.

Stereo-Particle Image Velocimetry (SPIV) experiments of the near wake region were conducted in the wind tunnel to examine the relationship between the incoming boundary layer profile and near-wake conditions. The research aimed to characterise wake conditions to assist in wind turbine placement. My time was also jointly spent developing a Matlab post-processing Graphics User Interface. I particularly focused on implementing a signal correcting algorithm to compensate for tubing pressure measurements. Show less
