About Danielle C.
Willkommen! Welcome and thank-you for visiting my Linkedin account. My name is Danielle Capitan and I am a secondary German/Spanish teacher. I received my bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan and have completed language study at the Goethe Institute in Bonn, Germany.During my student teaching experience, I was fortunate to be under the guidance of Dr. Hubert Rast. As a native German speaker, Dr. Rast was able to impart to me personal anecdotes and comparisons of German culture contrasted with American culture. We worked together to integrate Memrise, a structured vocabulary-learning website into the curriculum; which significantly improved students’ recall abilities. I experimented with methods like cooperative learning, direct instruction, and flipping the classroom as well.Following my student teaching experience, I was able to continue developing my own philosophy of teaching and learning at two additional schools. At Waterford Mott High School, I independently developed units for German 1 and 2 as well as work with a Special Education Teacher to instruct ninth-grade Language Arts. I also worked a semester at Churchill High School in Livonia teaching German 1 through 5, as well as commuting to teach a German 1 class at Frost Middle School. These experiences prepared me for a full-time position at Anderson High School, where I was responsible for German levels 1 through 5 as well as developing curriculum and working closely with the Nagel Middle School to build the program. It was here that I was able to explore the underdeveloped methodology of gamification and cultivate it within the educational sphere. I saw great results last year and I look forward to collaborating and growing my methods further.
