About Danielle Cadena
I am a curious and determined graduate student pursuing a Ph.D. in physical chemistry at The University of Texas at Austin. I am a recipient of the National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship. As a Graduate Research Assistant advised by Dr. Sean Roberts, I synthesize hybrid materials composed of quantum-confined semiconductor nanocrystals and molecular aggregates and I use ultrafast spectroscopy to characterize energy transfer within these materials. I am a member of the Center for Adapting Flaws into Features, an NSF Center for Chemical Innovation, where I work on collaborative and interdisciplinary research projects to understand how defects in hybrid materials impact energy transfer across an inorganic-organic interface. After completing my doctoral program, I plan to utilize my skill set as a materials chemist and spectroscopist to pursue a career as a research scientist in the fields of nanomaterials and physical chemistry. My research has allowed me to develop a wide range of skills encompassing materials chemistry and ultrafast spectroscopy. I have synthesized PbS nanocrystals using air-free techniques and exchanged native ligands for functional chromophores onto nanocrystal surfaces. After characterizing the nanocrystals, I study energy transfer dynamics and mechanisms using femtosecond and nanosecond transient absorption spectroscopy. I have developed my communication skills by mentoring several undergraduate students working on independent research projects and aided graduate students in laser alignment and nonlinear spectroscopy techniques. As the Roberts Group Safety Officer, I lead safety initiatives and manage safety training for new and current lab members. Additionally, I have participated in outreach events to promote STEM education in youth and teenage groups. My scientific training has afforded me the skills necessary to be an innovative and critical thinker. I value working in a collaborative and interdisciplinary environment. I aim to be an effective communicator and efficient team member as a research scientist working to address the world’s current and future challenges in materials chemistry.
Listed skills include Microsoft Office, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Research, and 3 others.
