My main focus in my Research Project was the development of new or improved methods needed in the field of the detection of food pathogens using reliable and efficient DNA-based methods such as Loop-Mediated Isothermal Amplification (LAMP). The main aim of my project was to detect pathogenic strains of DNA present in various food matrices within Microfluidic devices and fluorescent detection systems which can be easily used on-site for food testing.

• Supporting research within Microfluidic Platforms group through design, development and experimental testing of diagnostic systems• Overall development of Microfluidic Point-of-Care device for HIV diagnostics in resource poor environments• Rapid prototype manufacture which included- PDMS moulding, hard polymer laser cutting, xurography and assembly• Process, design, manufacture and optimisation of Point-of-Care cell based medical diagnostic devices for deployment in resource poor environments• Optimisation of prototype devices which included- manufacture optimisation, structural optimisation and optimisation of processes• Biological processing and testing of medically relevant samples- Blood and cells• Carrying out primary research throughout the Final Year Project and the internship position

• Organisation of customer documents and company records• Liasing with third parties, including Bord Gais and Balfour Beatty, to ensure workflows received were met within agreed time scales• Resource management. Assigning work and responsibilities to installation and maintenance teams

• Researching various fields included in sport to promote clean competition• Developing reports for sport enhancing products available to athletes highlighting advantages and disadvantages they provide• Attending WADA conference to further knowledge in the field• Administrative functions including athlete supplement forms, drug testing files and other administrative duties• Obtained the knowledge of using SurveyMonkey
