Working as a researcher within the Bottom Line Legal Consultancy I developed a thorough understanding of the solicitor-to-solicitor marketing network. Administrative work involved head-hunting legal clients, visiting law firms, shadowing closely the managing director of the company and understanding the day to day issues involved in running a large business.A share of the profit is made through The Solicitors’ Network Exchange newsletter which targets legal professionals directly without any external content or paid advertising. My role was to ensure the steady flow of subscriptions to the newsletter, targeting clients within certain markets and networks. I developed the monthly newsletter to act as a social networking device within a niche market i.e. those looking to buy, sell law firms, jobs for solicitors, legal clients offering their services to other legal professions, merger opportunities and various other legal work prospects.

Shadowing legal journalists and press officers within the Birmingham Law courts I developed an interest in writing, reporting, media and the law. My short placement involved spending 8-10hours a day witnessing legal proceedings and broadcasting them back to the offices at Fort Dunlop. Time management, punctuality, team effort, interview technique, media law, fast-paced reporting and high quality journalism were among the skills gained during this experience.
