The camp traveled to six states presenting many diverse geological areas that differed significantly from my previous experiences in Florida. The challenge presented a rewarding learning experience, allowing me to develop better critical thinking skills when assessing less familiar geological formations. The duration of the trip included individual and team assignments. The goal of each assignment was to identify and interpret various rock types, measure structural features and create detailed maps of the area, which would be used for a cross-section that was added to a report. Through this experience, I acquired new fieldwork skills and practiced existing ones, including keeping an organized field notebook, collecting rock and soil samples, and recording geological data. Additionally, my teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving skills developed further. The responsibilities of this role were to maintain a field book, map out the region of study, find reliable sources for extracting information on previous studies, and practice proper sampling methods.• Reviewed sedimentation features relating to historical sea level change, compared the results to current sea level change, and made predictions for the future.• Conducted analysis of the historical environment and climate to prove hypotheses of bedrock formation and predicted future geological patterns, including erosion and sedimentation rates.• Identified rock and minerals in hand samples and microscopic thin sections.• Related structural features with petrology to infer geochronology and interpret geologic history.• Developed figures and models to present environments of formation and the processes during formation.• Mapped study area on aerial photos and gathered data on lithologies along elevations to create topographical maps for stratographic columns.
