As Chief Executive Officer of Detroit 90/90, I lead the charter management company team, made up of 500 employees, that provides a vast array of support services to U Prep Schools. These services include curriculum and design instruction, facilities management, human resources, IT, finance, marketing and development support. U Prep Schools is one of the oldest and largest charter networks in Detroit with three school districts: University Preparatory Academy, University Prep Science & Math, and University Prep Art & Design. There are ten U Prep schools, including four elementary schools, three middle schools and three high schools, all located in the heart of Detroit. The network serves close to 5,000 students and their families.As the CEO, my responsibilities include: -Ensuring that our curriculum is culturally-relevant and advances the college prep mission for every child-Ensuring that our professional development opportunities leverage our teacher and leader talent and delivers high quality leadership experiences for all-Leading strategic priorities throughout the three networks-Supporting leadership and teacher development, as well as corporate cultureAs an educator for 20+ years, I am laser-focused on empowering teams to deliver quality and excellence in education. A native Detroiter, I have spent my entire career serving children and families in the city of Detroit. I joined the University Prep Crew in the summer of 2007, and in 2013, I was named the Chief Academic Officer. I was promoted to interim CEO, and then CEO, in 2020. My career has afforded me a deep understanding of the unique pressures that educators face, required to deliver results in a highly politicized environment. I recognize that leaders must strike a delicate balance between holding their teams accountable for results and supporting them through coaching and mentorship.
